2010 Italian Film Festival poster

We've just wrapt our latest poster for the Lavazza Italian Film Festival & Palace Cinemas. The idea has been floating about for a few years and is inspired by nostalgia for classic European café posters of days gone by. Hopefully this one will grace the walls of Australian cafes for a while too, and most importantly, get bums on seats.

We have worked closely with Palace Films for a number of years on theatrical film campaigns and love working with them for their willingness to embrace change and be brave enough to surrender control and let us explore - so when the chance came up to work with Palace Cinemas we were excited. The idea had been vaguely explored by us for a previous campaign but was shelved for a sell featuring a film still as key art, so we were delighted to get to resurrect the idea and work it through to finished art for the 2010 festival.

The concept is inspired by a poster featuring pasta being twirled around a fork, and is a tongue in cheek homage to two of the pillars of Italian culture - food and cinema.
We sought to open the festival's appeal to a broader audience by creating an unashamedly Italian visual which is warm and inviting. Previous campaigns have featured an image from a key film (2006 featured a still from Blow Up) which work well for cinefiles and the Italian community who are avid followers of European cinema, but we have sought to aim beyond these 'core' followers and try to build greater awareness and attention to the festival by almost exploiting the clichés of Italian culture.

Bon appetito!
