Carnival Studio re-branding
Carnival Studio re-branding 14th Jul, 2010
As the first of many case studies into fun, challenging and interesting design projects that come by the studio, we felt it best to delve into the company's own recent rebranding and explain some of the thoughts and reasoning behind the project, and the future directions of Carnival.
LOGO
The company name Carnival Studio was chosen to reflect a sense of passion and veracity that comes with performance and entertainment.
We like to think of ourselves as digital craftsmen/women who value process, quality and ideas over flash aesthetics. That is not to say we do not value the visually arresting, but more that we try to avoid design trends and always allow the subjects needs/requirements to dictate an outcome.
Throughout the company's growth and evolution, we've sought for the identity to reflect this appreciation of craft and history in graphic design. In 2008 the wordface was modernised to retain its strength and individuality but to also project a great emphasis on structure and order. The final identity launched in 2010 has seen the typography remain but the vertical arrows replaced with the inviting circus tent. Each of the three identities has been custom designed in the sense that hand-lettering would offer unique characters and traits, including the 'R' decender which has remained across all versions of the logo.

THE WEBSITE
Developed in close consultation with Mike Soden (Liquid Design) and James Oppenheim, the new website was rebuilt from scratch to provide a much stronger platform for the studio's work.
The company's work focus has expanded to encompass online advertising and website development, as well as grow in areas outside film marketing including publication design and restaurant/food branding, and the new website has been specifically developed to better showcase the variety of work we produce.

THE BLOG
'Behind The Velvet Curtain', the blog of Carnival Studio is designed to be the talkative brother of the main website and has been developed to provide a platform for us to divulge the meaty details and insights into our work, as well as showcase creativity that isn't necessarily work (photography, sketches, recipes) and general news. We will be publishing periodic eNewsletters to subscribers, featuring special projects we feel are worth highlighting, and the blog ties in deeply with the website and Carnival's social media presence on Twitter and Facebook.
