kung fu wall
kung fu wall 7th Dec, 2010
I was wandering home after an afternoon at the Courthouse in Newtown...
when I saw this down a hidden alley way. The entire building was covered in fabulously witty graffiti-style murals, with the film posters hidden around the corner at the back. I must have past the building on numerous occassions, but didn't spot these poster paintings until I went for a wander. Another reason to get out of the car!
Here's the whole back wall (excuse dodgy patching)

Classic martial arts film posters decorating what is a martial arts studio. It's wonderfully in keeping with the area and looks so much better than the boring tagging that appears if a wall is left blank. Wander further back towards Newtown and you'll see a tribute to Where the Wild Things Are on a garage door and a sci-fi flower decorating a garden wall. Hey even the kids daycare across the road has a more fun look than most.
The pub had some cool images of its own.

I won't tell you where in the pub, I took some of them, but there are clues. The irony is that it used to be the parlour or 'ladies lounge' before its modern incarnation. Don't think the Arabic sign is a cola one (?), but I could be wrong.
