Typestream

As graphic artists, we work in digital mediums where thousands of typefaces are at our disposal and can be selected, re-sized, kerned and manipulated with ease.

It is a marvellous thing but like many aspects of how we live, the digital revolution has lead to homogenisation of culture where imperfections are 'fixed' and everything is ordered.

This post is a celebration of imperfect & beautiful type found in the streets of the world, be it hand-painted, chiselled, carved or letterpress printed.

Update: We have added a lightbox viewer to the blog so click an image to view the images in their intended big & beautiful glory

Sydney CBD Type -  14th February

Australia's typographic history is relatively shallow in comparision to Europe's and is deeply linked to the styles & trends prevalent in England.
We took a walk through Sydney's Circular Quay & The Rocks areas in search of our typographic pedigree, or what remains, and discovered some rough gems.
