Archibald Prize 2020

Working in close collaboration with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Carnival was tasked with creating a series of teaser and launch videos for the 2020 Archibald Prize. Due to the disruption to the usual scheduled dates for submission and the event opening, the aim of the videos was to let people know that the gallery was open and to build excitement for the fact that the Archibalds were still happening.

 

A teaser video using snappy animation and pithy copywriting was first developed, utilising a more playful animation style than previous years, to communicate the gallery’s excitement at the news that the Archies would still go ahead. Upon the shortlisting of the artworks to be featured in the prize, Carnival then created a suite of portrait, square, 4:5 ratio and landscape videos featuring different artworks. The playful animation style was carried throughout, using clever visual motion graphics techniques whilst remaining considerate of the integrity of the artworks themselves.
