Carnival were commissioned by writer/director Tony D’Aquino to design pre-production key art for a female lead horror film he was developing. The key art was intended as a base to seek investment, distribution, pre-sale and support from future cast and crew. Using stock photography as source imagery, the key image was composited into a rainforest scene and blood splatters moulded to the axe-wielding lead.
This is an interesting example of how pre-production key art can influence and set the tone for the completed film’s marketing, where the original ideas developed prior to the film being made have carried on throughout release and into international territories.
