True friendship dives deep

Partnering with the Stan Originals team, Carnival developed the creative direction for the Australian Children’s Television Foundation family film, Whale Shark Jack, featuring Alyla Brown, Abbie Cornish and Rachel Ward.

Billed as a heartwarming story about family, friendship, and the natural world as a young girl comes to terms with the loss of her father by embarking on a risky mission to save her best friend, a whale shark named Jack. We developed two directions which focused upon family and friendship, with the majestic whale shark a feature of both, to be engaging and relatable to both parents and their children.

Given the scale difference between a whale shark and a human, the core challenge of this brief was to capture them together in a split-screen within the stunning Exmouth environment.

We engaged our friend and children’s book illustrator Cheryl Orsini to hand-illustrate the title treatment to bring a gentle warmth to the design, and coupled with our tagline development, the film is clearly positioned as a wholesome family title that captures the Australian spirit, which we believe is increasingly important to see on screen.

A huge thank you to the Stan Originals marketing team for supporting the journey.
