Palm Beach

Working in collaboration with Universal Pictures International, Carnival was tasked with creating compelling key art for the aspirational drama Palm Beach featuring a large ensemble cast including Bryan Brown, Sam Neill, Greta Scacchi and Richard E.Grant, Jacqueline McKenzie and Aaron Jeffery.

Unit photography was supplied and fixed, with no option to reshoot cast. Within these parameters, a number of concepts were developed that captured the idyllic Pittwater location as well as the strong cast. After 4-5 various ideas were pursued and presented to the client, the balcony lunch direction was selected. Problematically, there was no single image featuring all main cast at the table – so began the painstaking task of selecting individual character images from the lunch scene, as well as the landscape and table settings, and carefully compositing together to create a compelling and visually evocative piece of key art. The inclusion of ensemble casts in key art is often a significant challenge, which we have faced previously (view our Squinters and Wentworth projects), but this can be overcome with early planning to capture strong photography.
