Working in collaboration with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Carnival created an animated commercial for the Japan Supernatural exhibition. Beginning the process with the design of a number of narrative concepts, a direction was chosen and storyboards created, based upon the notion of passing through a portal to the hidden world of spirits and the supernatural. Artworks were selected based on their appropriateness to the concept and their ability to be animated, whilst also taking into consideration the wishes of the artists and permissions for appropriate usage.
Assets were then developed and tested, setting the characters up in 3D space and moving a virtual camera through the moving parts. After much tweaking of motion and addition of atmospheric elements, animated typography was then added to the mix and a soundtrack selected and edited. The final edit was then output for multiple sources and in various time durations for use across television, cinema advertising, online and animated signage.
